BBC Worldwide today announced a major new partnership with game developer Three Rings to create BBC Worldwide's first ever free-to-play multiplayer online game for Doctor Who. Click here to read the full press release on the BBC Press Office.

"For the first time ever, players from around the world will be able to follow in the footsteps of the eccentric and brilliant Doctor by travelling through time and space, exploring new worlds and encountering many alien races, both friend and foe. Titled Doctor Who: Worlds in Time, the game allows players to enter the TARDIS and be set a challenge by the mysterious Time Lord to help him defend civilized culture against infamous Doctor Who enemies.

Synopsis

A Christmas Carol Overnight Ratings

A Christmas Carol aired at Christmas, at 6:00pm, and BARB has released the unofficial overnight ratings, as 10.3 million. An approximate 9 million watched it on BBC One, while another 1.3 million watched it on BBC HD. It had 39.8% of the total audience, and was the second highest rated of the day, behind EastEnders. 207,000 watched Doctor Who Confidential, on BBC Three, an hour later. The official ratings will be released in around a weeks time, which usually is a much higher figure.

The Adventure Games - 'Shadows of the Vashta Nerada'

The BBC have revealed information about the fourth and final episode of The Adventure Games on Day Two of the BBC Doctor Who Adventure Calendar. It is called 'Shadows of the Vashta Nerada' and will be available to download in the UK at Christmas. The game is set in the "sea-bed colony called Poseidon", under water. The BBC also posted a new wallpaper of the episode, from the link above.

Shadows of the Vashta Nerada will be released simultaneously on PC and Mac and available for no extra cost to UK households. Users outside the UK will be able to purchase and download it - we'll have more details about this nearer the release.

The game was written by Phil Ford (City of the Daleks, Torchwood) and executive produced by Steven Moffat, Piers Wenger, Beth Willis and Anwen Aspden (BBC Wales, Interactive), alongside Charles Cecil.

BARB has released the official figures for parts 1 and 2 of Death of the Doctor, aired on CBBC on the 26th and 27th of October. They both attracted record breaking viewing figures for the CBBC channel. Part 1 attracted 0.92 million viewers, while part 2 attracted 0.96 million. The second episode of Sarah Jane's Alien Files, aired after part 1, 0.388 million viewers.

I keep forgetting when I post these, but this is my 800th post! 136 days since my 700th, quite a bit longer than that of 600-700 but kind of average-slow for each 100 since the start. Collider has had an exclusive interview with Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner, on the next series of Torchwood. A few small new details have been mentioned.

"The ambition is to shoot in Los Angeles, but that is yet to be confirmed. Any place can double up as a number of places. There will be scenes set in Washington, certainly, but we won’t go to Washington to shoot."

"Torchwood will have been off-air for two years, so I think it will feel like two years have passed," he explained. "The script isn't that specific about it, but I think that two-year gap feels right."

BARB has released the official figures for parts 1 and 2 of The Nightmare Man, aired on CBBC on the 11th and 12th of October. Part 1 attracted 0.594 million viewers, while part 2 attracted 0.668 million. The first episode of Sarah Jane's Alien Files, aired after part 1, 0.431 million viewers. The 2 parts of The Nightmare Man was repeated on BBC Two, with the overnight figures 0.21 million for Part One and 0.31 million for Part two.

Torchwood Possible Roles

Entertainment Weekly has posted 3 possible actors for roles in the next series of Torchwood. Chad Michael Murray and Enver Gjokaj are both reported to play 'Rex Matheson', and Amber Stevens is rumoured to play Esther Katusi. Click here to read more.

Rex Matheson is a sharp-as-nails, funny-as-hell, tough-as-rawhide CIA agent who cares less about making a good impression than he does making a lasting one. Sounds juicy, right? So no wonder my sources tell me that both Dollhouse alum Enver Gjokaj and One Tree Hill grad Chad Michael Murray are eyeing the role.

Esther Katusi is a CIA Watch Analyst — in other words, a grunt — who, against all odds, has both an unshakable faith in human nature and a monster crush on Rex. Greek goddess Amber Stevens is said to be the frontrunner for this part.

A harmless investigation turns into an epic quest through time, as the alien-busting adventure series continues. Sarah Jane and the gang are separated by the enigmatic Shopkeeper and find themselves in three different time-zones throughout history, thrown together with ghosthunters, Nazis, Tudors ... and a mysterious parrot called Captain.

While Sarah Jane tries to prevent a future tragedy, Clyde has to take on the Third Reich single-handed. But Rani discovers to her horror that the march of history cannot be stopped, as a greater danger from the Time Vortex threatens to consume them all.

Sarah Jane is played by Elisabeth Sladen, Clyde by Daniel Anthony and Rani by Anjli Mohindra.

This two-part adventure is repeated on BBC One at 4.30pm on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 November.

Doctor Who Set in the US

The BBC has reported that series 6 will open with a 2-part story, written by Steven Moffat will be filmed in Utah desert, in the US. It will be set "in the late '60's in which the Doctor, Amy and Rory find themselves on a secret summons to the Oval Office." Alex Kingston will return as River Song in this story, co-produced by BBC America. Click here to read more.

Moffat said: "The Doctor has visited every weird and wonderful planet you can imagine, so he was bound get round to America eventually. Doctor Who Minecraft! - Edited

For those who haven't heard of it, Minecraft is basically the best game ever. Even though I don't have it.. yet. It's a massive (three times Earth) sandbox game for you to build your own house, and kill skeletons and punch sheep. Well anyway, your character can have a customised look, and on this Skins website, there are quite a few to choose from, including several Doctor Who ones! Although it's not strictly Doctor Who, I still highly recommend the game. Thanks a lot to users phonik, onmizodd and an anonymous user for creating them!

There are also Futurama, SpongeBob, Star Wars, lots and lots of random ones and pretty much anything you can think of! Except for Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. And the proper game costs €9.95 (about £8.60).

The Creators of the Daleks

I don't normally post stuff like this but as I noticed it first hand, I felt like posting. Anyways, the American sitcom Better Off Ted (watch it, it's on FX) had an episode that featured an old discarded Dalek. The episode 'The Great Repression' had a scene in which Phil and Lem go to a collection of old, unused robots the company (Veridian Dynamics) has thrown away. In the background, there's a Dalek! A 2005-2009 one, sitting in the corner. Could Veridian be the front for organised universal domination for Davros?

Part 1:

Sarah Jane Smith and her gang of trusty sidekicks return with more alien-busting adventures in the fourth series of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Featuring the usual mixture of thrills, laughs and scares the new series promises fun with enemies old and new, including the terrors of the Nightmare Man and a dangerous journey back into history. The show also takes its first visit to an alien world and tackles brand new vulture aliens the Shansheeth.

The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) makes a guest appearance in two special episodes which unite Sarah Jane, with another of the Doctor's former companions, Jo Grant (Katy Manning), in the mysteriously entitled Death Of The Doctor written by Russell T Davies. Additional guest stars include: Laila Rouass, Cheryl Campbell, David Bradley, Julie Graham and Lucie Jones.

In the first two-part adventure, The Nightmare Man, Sarah Jane's adopted son, Luke, faces life-changing events and Bannerman Road will never be the same again when he has his first nightmare and is haunted by a dark figure from his dreams. A strange entity is reaching out to our world, with terrible consequences for the whole human race.

The Sarah Jane Adventures is executive produced by Russell T Davies and Nikki Wilson, and produced by Brian Minchin. Writers on the fourth series include Phil Ford (also co-producer), Joseph Lidster, Rupert Laight, Gareth Roberts and Clayton Hickman.

This opening episode will be repeated on BBC One on Wednesday 13 October at 4.30pm.

Elisabeth Sladen returns as Sarah Jane Smith, alongside Tommy Knight as Luke, Daniel Anthony as Clyde and Anjil Mohindra as Rani, Julian Bleach plays the Nightmare Man.

Part 2:

With Luke, Clyde and Rani trapped in a bizarre dreamscape, Sarah Jane must fight alone in the concluding part of the first story in the fourth series of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

As the Nightmare Man grows stronger, only K9 might hold the key, but can Luke summon the courage to face his adult life before the whole world becomes trapped in an endless nightmare?

This episode will be shown again on BBC One on Thursday 14 October at 4.30pm.

Doctor Who Casting - Suranne Jones

The BBC has revealed that Suranne Jones, who previously played Mona Lisa in the last series of The Sarah Jane Adventures, will star in an episode of series 6 of Doctor Who, written by Neil Gaiman. Filming for the episode started today(Friday) and she plays 'Idris'. Click here.

Suranne is marvellous. She's beautiful, funny and strange. It's the kind of role that people will remember forever, so we needed someone who was able to pull that off, and to keep up with Matt Smith. And bite him. Suranne does all three."

Suranne revealed "As an actor, it's hugely exciting to be cast in Doctor Who. I'm a massive fan of the show and I was blown away when I read Neil's script and uncovered what's in store for my character".

The Adventure Games Recommissioned

The BBC has recommissioned for a new series of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games, for 2011. The BBC’s head of multiplatform in vision Simon Nelson told MCV:

To date the first three Adventure Games have been downloaded over 1.6m times, with a fourth release due out later this year.

The new games will once again be produced by Steven Moffat, Piers Wenger, Beth Willis, along with Anwen Aspden and be developed by Sumo Digital. Screen stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillen will also return in digital form.

“Given the success of the first series, we'd be daft not to recomission,” BBC’s head of multiplatform in vision Simon Nelson stated.

“But it's not just about the numbers; the feedback we've had has been overwhelmingly positive. Our audience has been introduced to a new form of drama – and, for many, these have been the first computer games they have downloaded. We've set new standards in audience participation - and we think we've really helped push the concept of families actively playing together. I can't wait to see what the team does next.”

But this isn't just any SJA story. This is the story where she comes face to face with both the new Doctor (Matt Smith) and ex-companion Jo Grant (Katy Manning). It's too good to be true.

Youngest Doctor - Guinness World Record

The Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith started playing the role at 26, the youngest actor to be the Doctor, and for that.. and nothing else, he has won himself a new Guinness World Record. The 2011 edition of the book will feature a new spread of just Doctor Who records, with Longest Running Sci Fi series, Most Successful Sci Fi series, and also Longest Running Magazine Based on a Television Series for Doctor Who Magazine. Series 6 Casting

Jamie Oram (Alphabet Kidz) has been revealed to be cast in series 6 of Doctor Who, in episode 4, which is also reported on Spotlight to be titled 'What are Little Boys Made of?'. He plays the role of Harry, a "troubled young boy who has a nervous disposition". The parents have also been revealed to be played by Emma Cunniffe and Daniel Mays.

The special features include commentaries of episodes 1, 3, 4, 6, 9 and 13, deleted scenes, video diaries, versions of Doctor Who Confidential and exclusively filmed scenes giving on happenings in the TARDIS between episodes are also included in the 6-disk set. It is due for release on 8th November 2010, at the RRP £69.99 for DVD and £79.99 for Blu-ray.

Doctor Who won 'Best Family Drama' in the TV Choice Awards 2010. It was held at Dorchester Hotel on Monday, hosted by Alexander Armstrong. Click here to see the results. It beat Merlin, Waterloo Road and Wild At Heart. In other categories, Torchwood: Children of Earth lost out to Ashes to Ashes in Best Drama Series, John Barrowman and Matt Smith lost out to Jack O'Connell in Best Actor and Karen Gillan lost out to Denise Welch in Best Actress.

An hour of highlights of the Doctor Who Proms was shown on BBC Three yesterday at 8:30. You can watch it on iPlayer now, here. The programme was watched by the unofficial overnight figure of 0.52 million people, with a 2.2% share of television audience. The show was hosted by Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, and with a guest appearance from Matt Smith. Music written by Murray Gold, and performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Ben Foster.

Jane Espenson Interview for Torchwood

Next series of Doctor Who to be split transmission

BBC Press Office has had a press release revealing that series 6 of Doctor Who will be shown in 2 blocks, in spring and autumn. See here, and here.

The split transmission is the result of a request from Steven Moffat to write a new Doctor Who story arc which involves a big plot twist in the middle of the series. By splitting the series Moffat plans to give viewers one of the most exciting Doctor Who cliffhangers and plot twists ever, leaving them waiting, on the edge of their seats, until the autumn to find out what happens.

Steven Moffat said: "The split series is hugely exciting because viewers will be treated to two premieres, two finales and more event episodes. For the kids it will never be more than a few months to the next Doctor Who! Easter, Autumn, Christmas!!"

"Looking at the next series I thought what this show needs is a big event in the middle," Moffat told the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival.

"I kept referring to a mid-season finale. So we are going to make it two series – seven episodes at Easter building to an earth-shattering climax, a cliffhanger we could never normally do because it would be too long before it came back. An enormous game-changing cliffhanger that will change everything.

"The wrong expression would be to say we are splitting it in two. We are making it two separate series."
