Doctor Who: Worlds In Time Multiplayer Game

BBC Worldwide today announced a major new partnership with game developer Three Rings to create BBC Worldwide's first ever free-to-play multiplayer online game for Doctor Who. Click here to read the full press release on the BBC Press Office.

"For the first time ever, players from around the world will be able to follow in the footsteps of the eccentric and brilliant Doctor by travelling through time and space, exploring new worlds and encountering many alien races, both friend and foe. Titled Doctor Who: Worlds in Time, the game allows players to enter the TARDIS and be set a challenge by the mysterious Time Lord to help him defend civilized culture against infamous Doctor Who enemies.

Torchwood: Miracle Day

The BBC has released a new Press Release, for the next series of Torchwood, which has been renamed from The New World, to Miracle Day. It features a new revealing synopsis of the story, character descriptions, and much more.

Synopsis

One day, nobody dies. All across the world, nobody dies. And then the next day, and the next, and the next, people keep aging -- they get hurt and sick -- but they never die. The result: a population boom, overnight. With all the extra people, resources are finite. It’s said that in four months’ time, the human race will cease to be viable. But this can’t be a natural event – someone’s got to be behind it. It’s a race against time as C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy. The answers lie within an old, secret British institute. As Rex keeps asking “What is Torchwood?", he’s drawn into a world of adventure, and a threat to change what it means to be human, forever.

REX MATHESON (Mekhi Phifer)

He’s the golden boy. The embodiment of the American dream and has been all his life. Esther is an innocent, in a world of assassins, liars and zealots. She got where she is with the C.I.A through diligence and application. Hard work keeps Esther focused but she still dreams of active duty as a field agent serving her country. The dream is going to happen faster than she thinks and in no time at all, Esther finds herself running alongside Jack, Gwen and Rex, living off the grid, gun in hand, fighting a global conspiracy against enemies ranging from big business to the state. OSWALD DANES (Bill Pullman)

BARB has released the official figures for A Christmas Carol, as 12.11 million, on BBC One and BBC HD. It was the fourth most watched of the Christmas week, behind EastEnders, Coronation Street and Come Fly With Me.

A Christmas Carol Overnight Ratings

A Christmas Carol aired at Christmas, at 6:00pm, and BARB has released the unofficial overnight ratings, as 10.3 million. An approximate 9 million watched it on BBC One, while another 1.3 million watched it on BBC HD. It had 39.8% of the total audience, and was the second highest rated of the day, behind EastEnders. 207,000 watched Doctor Who Confidential, on BBC Three, an hour later. The official ratings will be released in around a weeks time, which usually is a much higher figure.

1. The episode is a tour de force for Matt Smith. Amy and Rory are pretty much sidelined as Smith explodes like a force of nature from the screen. He is magnificent
2. It’s fantasy, through and through. It’s a Christmas whimsy that pays mere lip service to science fiction. This is Moffat’s vision of the show as a dark fairy tale taken further than ever before. We’re predicting some people will have a problem with this. Your enjoyment may be in relation to your ability to suspend disbelief
3. Two articles of clothing from the Doctor’s past make cameo appearances
4. There’s an unexpected continuity reference to the Tom Baker story “Pyramids Of Mars”
5. The Doctor is asked for some advice that he cannot give
6. The Doctor gets married
7. Katherine can act. You might be worried about a singer who’s never acted before taking on such a major role, but she’s really very good.
8. There are more witty, quotable lines per minute than ever before
9. Some of the FX are outstanding, but a couple are, well, shall we just say… over-ambitious
10. The production design is stunning
11. It’s not the most action-packed of Christmas special. There are some great, exciting set pieces, but mostly it’s a character piece
12. Michael Gambon is, of course, amazing.
13. The names in the opening titles are all Christmas-ed up
14. It’s fish and ships for Christmas!
15. It’s very, very, very Christmassy, and quite emotional
16. There’s a trailer for next season at the end (roll over for spoilery info:the Utah shoot looks incredible, we think we spotted an Ood, and there is a mention of Jammy Dodgers!)
17. Two of the Doctor’s trusted aides aren't quite so reliable
18. Parents may hope that children won’t ask them to explain one gag
19. The final shot would make a good Christmas card
20. The Doctor has one major costume change (other than ones involving putting Father Christmas hats)

Start Date and Mekhi Phifer for Torchwood

The American actor Mekhi Phifer, best known for roles in ER and Lie To Me, as well as numerous Music videos, has been reported to be cast as CIA Agent Rex Matheson in the new series of Torchwood. Click here to read more, on Deadline. The official Torchwood Facebook page also has revealed that the series will premier on the 1st July, in both the UK and the US.

Series 6 Broadcast Dates?

The Doctor Who Advent Calendar, over at the official site has today released the full video (in parts) of Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill turning on the Cardiff Christmas Lights (Coldplay!) on the 10th of November, and Matt Smith hinted the new series in 2011 could start "I think it is the second week of April", which would be 9th April if on the usual Saturday..

The Adventure Games - 'Shadows of the Vashta Nerada'

The BBC have revealed information about the fourth and final episode of The Adventure Games on Day Two of the BBC Doctor Who Adventure Calendar. It is called 'Shadows of the Vashta Nerada' and will be available to download in the UK at Christmas. The game is set in the "sea-bed colony called Poseidon", under water. The BBC also posted a new wallpaper of the episode, from the link above.

Shadows of the Vashta Nerada will be released simultaneously on PC and Mac and available for no extra cost to UK households. Users outside the UK will be able to purchase and download it - we'll have more details about this nearer the release.

The game was written by Phil Ford (City of the Daleks, Torchwood) and executive produced by Steven Moffat, Piers Wenger, Beth Willis and Anwen Aspden (BBC Wales, Interactive), alongside Charles Cecil.
